Tamburlaine the Great, Part 1 was Christopher Marlowe’s first play. It was written and performed around 1587 and first published in 1590 by Richard Jones. The play was first performed c. 1587 by Admiral Nottingham’s Men. Tamburlaine the Great, Part 1 is based on the life of 14th-century military leader Timur, an Asian Emperor.
